Gillingham preview

Living down in Kent and in Gillingham I get over to Priestfield Stadium as much as I can and have watched the Gills a few times this season.
Now I'm sure most on here will have a rough idea about them considering we are local to them.
But here goes

Steve Evans has got them playing some really good stuff and they have some good footballers. One of the main things Evans has managed to do there is a keep a solid back 4 and after their last home game against Portsmouth which finished 1-1 they had won their last 6 at home.
Evans a bit like Moyes was a quite an unpopular choice amongst their support and many have turned against Paul Scally the chairman. You could say they are like a smaller west ham really. Scally has promised a new stadium, push for promotion etc but not delivered. Would you believe if I said he is good friends with Sullivan and Gold.. weird how their actions rub off on someone else.

They have some good footballers as I said. At the back Max Ehmer who joined on a free from QPR is one of their longest serving players and has been a key part of the back 4 for a while and Evans has made him captain. One of their main stayers is Barry Fuller who has got over 450 football league appearances to his name and is a club legend. He is 35 but like a fine wine seems to have got better with age. He is keeping one of their summer signings from Rangers Lee Dodson out if the side so he must be doing something right..
One of their rising stars is a young centre back Jack Tucker, who has caught the attention of championship teams one reported to be Charlton and Brentford I heard were looking at him. Gillingham tied him down to a new deal and he is said to have a bright future in game and is setting up a good centre back pairing with Ehmer.

In the midfield they have a few battlers and players not afraid of sticking a boot in. In and out of the side is Stuart O'Keefe who signed in the summer on a free. O'Keefe played in the premier league with Crystal Palace. Olly Lee signed on loan from Hearts and seems to have done quite well so far with some decent performances.
2 of their best players are from Southampton Alfie Jones and irish midfielder Tom O'Connor. Both are said to be rising stars in the game and after a season down in Kent many tip them to be in the Southampton team come next season.

Up front is Brandon Hanlan quite a fast pacy centre forward who isn't afraid of running at a defence and getting stuck in. Same as his partner Mikael Mandron who signed from Colchester in the summer on a free. Both are striking up a partnership that is making the Gills a bit of a force in League 1.

Steve Evans will no doubt get his team up for this game. He has already said that he wants Moyes to play a strong team and in reality Moyes has to. Gillingham are no walkovers especially at home, they are a team that has taken a while to settle but Evans is getting a tune out of them and they won't fear us at all. They went to Ipswich in December and took the game to them and were unlucky not to take all 3 points having to settle for the draw.

The crowd will be up for it, it will be their biggest attendance in over 10 years, probably the last time we went there. The rainham end will be loud and they can create a good atmosphere there.

It will be a battle of the Scots and hopefully for us, Moyes picks a strong team and players who ain't afraid of getting stuck in. Players such as Noble, Snodgrass, Rice should be up for this, Gillingham won't care who is on the pitch they will be after a win and given the extra incentives such as BT Tv money and the lure of beating a Premier League team, we will definitely need to put in a shift otherwise it could be a long evening.

Chrisel, then he joins quite a long lIst of Chatham players recently! What on Earth did that lairy cunt Scott Lindsay find to row with a ball boy about?

I quite like the Chatham Town initiative of using an entire local youth team for the ball boy squad on each match. Gets them a ton of feeder clubs and supporters.

My son was a ball boy at Chatham town earlier in the season, he ended up having a row with the Chatham town manager.

According to Moyes, Fabianski didn't train today. Now that is worrying. They have some decent players who can swing a good ball into the box and their Left back Conor Ogilive loves a header.

Diop can deal with speed, and Ogbonna with the bigger forward.

Fabianski behind them and build from there.

There is no reason we should not beat any League One side as long we put out a side that cares and treats this as another must win game.

0 - 0 no score bore on Boxing Day.


Completely locked the Tractor boys out and looked the more threatening on the break.


An early goal would put paid to their tactics though.

Olly LEE is bound to score.

I saw Hanlan play for Bromley and he was the best player on the pitch, but that was conference level.

I am not looking forward to this, living in Gillingham as well, surrounded by them. Good review Steve, last I saw them was when they won promotion under Martin Allen. Their fans, like ours, can be right mongs, recall under Allen they were winning a game and a few mongs in the Rainham end were chanting you don't know what you're doing, 1 up and 2nd in the division at the time!!!! they won the game.

A lot of their fans have the same opinion of Scally as we do of our lot.
